Why is the Brick Wall There?
April 10th, 2008 Categories: Kids, Family & Personal Stuff
Ever wondered why we seem to run into brick walls in life? Guess this is my philosophical post for the day….
Why does your house not sell when you need it to sell? Why do you have more bills than you can pay? Why do you have health issues? Why did did the investor pull funds from your project at the last minute? Why did the pizza delivery guy deliver the wrong pizza? Why did you not get what you wanted? Why….
Yes some of these things are “your fault” or “you could have prevented them” or “you should have forseen the possibility”. But remember things are not always fair – they just ARE. They are just the way things are now – today.
I watched TV last night especially to see the Primetime Live show about the Last Lecture of Randy Pausch. He is a remarkable man that through his Last Lecture helps put MANY things into perspective very quickly. He said quite few very thought provoking things during the interview, but the brick wall statement really stopped me.
Why do we have brick walls in our lives? They aren’t there to stop us. “…The brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.” says Dr. Pausch.
What is the brick wall in your life? Do you want it bad enough to get through it?
Want to see the lecture? It is WELL worth your time! You might want to read his book too! The Last Lecture
Have you read the book? Did you see the video? What did you think? What did you learn?

Brick Walls are there to help you think if you want to break thru them. A brick wall can be anything. A frindship, a family member, a past experience, even just a thought in your mind. Getting past the brick wall is all in your mind. Think hard and Think Good. Breaking the brink wall does a body good.
Think about it.
Position yourself around sturdy brick walls not weak ones.
If you try your hardest and put forth truely your best effort and do all you can and the brick wall still appears, then you should consider the fact that perhaps you were not meant to proceed in the direction you thought was the right path.
I did not see the program or read the book but I have often thought brick walls in our lives are there to cause us to pause. Just to stop for a moment, long enough to evaluate our position, objective and next move. Remember the movie Beetle Juice, they need to get to the other side but there is nothing but a big brick wall in front of them. They pick up a piece of chalk, believe in themselves, draw a door on the brick wall with a door knob. Then they grab the chalk door knob and open up the door right and walk right through. Believe! Believe your Lord, believe in yourself, believe in your ability to negotiate any situation that comes along and go ahead and walk right thru those walls. Believe.
Be sure to take the time to watch the video even if you don’t have time to read the book. Dr. Pausch is an inspiration for us all!
When I clicked on the link, I realized I have seen this lecture before. Someone eamiled it to me from the Oprah show. I felt really bad for the guy his family…especially having young children. I am greatful that everyone in my family has thier health and am extremely impressed at his outlook on life. I hope a miracle occurs for him. The lecture itself was not really that impressive or an eye-opener for me. I have successfully missed what everyone else sees.
I will say, he does have the complete right idea on how to live. Excellent advice.
