Brazos Valley Church Food Pantry NEEDS YOUR HELP Saturday! Our Community is HUNGRY!

Volunteers needed at Brazos Valley Church Food Pantry this Saturday, May 3, 2008.

Brazos Church Food Pantry Empty Plate Need HelpThe Boy Scout food drive is May 3rd and help is needed at the Brazos Valley Church Pantry that day to sort and store the donated food. The Pantry expects to start receiving food around 9:30 am and to be finished by early afternoon. Volunteers are needed for any portions of this time. The Pantry is located at 304 W. 26th St, just down from St. Andrew’s. Please come and help!

Do you wonder why you should help? Surely there is enough food in the Brazos Valley especially with all the fund raising done for the Food Pantry. NOT TRUE!!!

Take just a minute and think – when was the last time you were hungry? Imagine that feeling lasting and increasing over days… Imagine having to look at your children while they are experiencing that hunger day after day. No, children are not being fed enough at school to last the entire day. Even if they were – soemtimes there isn’t food for supper or food for the weekend.

The Brazos Valley Church Food Pantry is a place for people to go when they need help. No, people don’t go there just because they can get free food. The experience is an humbling experience and not one anyone wants to go through unless they really have no other choice.

Food is available at the Brazos Valley Church Food Pantry only once every three months unless over 65 and qualified by Elderaid. Most people showing up for food arrive wearing worn out clothing, out of work and many are disabled. They arrive on foot, carpool and sometimes arrive in older cars in poor condition. They need help and really have almost no where else to go to feed their families.

The Church Food Pantry is in need of several things -

Each year it seems food costs more (they purchase food from the Brazos Valley Food Pantry), electricity goes up, expenses go up and more and more people need help.

The local churches fund a portion of the money needed to help the Brazos Valley. Below are the churches who donated the most in 2007 – Is your church listed below? If not, please talk with your church leadership and ask them to get MORE involved! Look at your church’s budget – are you caring for the poor and needy appropriately?

  1. St. Andrew’s Episcopal – $17,780
  2. First United Methodist – $9,335
  3. Central Baptist – $6,466
  4. Bethel Lutheran – $5,069
  5. First Presbyterian – $4,944

Remember the people running the Church Pantry are all volunteers! Will you be one too? Will you help the people of the Brazos Valley? Join us on Saturday and get involved!

Why don’t churches give more? Doesn’t the Bible say to feed the hungry?
