How do I Take Care of My Granite Countertops?

granitebathroom250.jpgMany people think that granite is high maintance and needs to be sealed from time to time. Yes, you can seal granite (similar to waxing your car) but most quality granites now come resin-coated. When granite is resin coated it is no longer porous and does not need to be sealed to keep its appearance or integrity. Having granite resin-coated should also prevent water marks from forming too. But should you want to preserve your granite even more go ahead and seal it! Sealing resin treated countertops may increase the resistance of the already resistant nature of stone If your granite is older or not resin-coated be sure to seal it properly.

Dos and Don’ts

Call your professional stone supplier, installer or a restoration specialist for problems that appear too difficult to treat.

And don’t over clean. Some people and restaurants over clean their counters which leaves a greasy film on them that shows everything that touches them. It’s good use warm vinegar and water on most granites and to use it sparingly. She is right about mixing the chemicals. I did by accident which I was younger and it made me very dizzy!
