The Client – Designing a House!
March 31st, 2010 Categories: Buying
Susan, you asked me to write an article or two stating what is involved in designing a house. Well, there are a lot of different things and a lot of different steps and I could probably write a book about the process. So maybe we could break it up into chronological pieces?? Seems simple… That being said, I guess I should start with the client, since that is the most important piece of the puzzle.
The Client…
I have yet to meet a client who walks up to me and simply says, “Design me a house!” Of course my name isn’t Frank Lloyd Wright or Richard Meyer. No, everyone comes to me with at least a sketch of an idea of what they want, even on a napkin (yes, I have even had a few of these). And that’s okay. But most of the time my clients come to me with very descriptive ideas including pictures of exactly what they want. They have stacks of plans they’ve looked through and have decided the want part of this plan and part of that plan all welded into one grand design. They think the task will be daunting with all this information, but it actually makes my job a lot easier. ”Give them what they want” is the motto I design my houses by. For, it is not my house, it is my client’s Read the rest of this entry »

It’s the Big Event in Aggieland!
March 31st, 2010 Categories: Texas A&M University
Not everyone is a fan of spring cleaning. That is unless you’re an Aggie. While some are dreading the idea of a daylong cleaning session, Aggie Organizations across campus are gearing up for the “biggest” event of the year: The Big Event. The Big Event is the largest, one day, student run service project in the nation. All students, whether with an organization or a group of buddies, gather together to serve residents from the Bryan/ College Station community as a thank you.
For many Aggies the Bryan/College Station area has become a second home and are more than willing to offer a hand (multiple hands) to helping out the locals. Projects usually just consist of doing chores around the house such as raking, mowing, picking up trash, but can get as intense Read the rest of this entry »

Bryan College Station Parks and Nature Trails
March 31st, 2010 Categories: Neighborhoods
A great thing about Bryan/College Station is that the sister cities’ governance actively tries to preserve as much of natural setting as it can. They’re both developing fairly rapidly, which is great for residents and business owners. What’s even better for residents is that the cities highly value some of the features it began with, like the beautiful trees and the wonderful landscape.
Some of the nature reserves in the Bryan/College Station area are not very well known, even among residents– like the Texas A&M Horticulture gardens. Off South College Road, is a small street called Hensel; here you’ll find Read the rest of this entry »
