Spring is in the air, and the warm weather looks like it is finally here to stay in College Station. Thankfully, in the past few months a couple of delicious (and healthy!) new tasty treats have come to town.
A couple of months ago, College Station welcomed the self-serve styled frozen yogurt place,
Spoons, located at 1509 South Texas Avenue, and the line has been out the door almost everyday since. Spoons offers a variety of healthy, fat-free frozen yogurt flavors- and you can choose as many as you want! The 12 flavors range from chocolate, pistachio, pomegranate, cake batter, strawberry; the list goes on. Spoons gives you complete
control: you choose the size of the bowl, the amount of frozen yogurt, and even the quantity and mixture of toppings to sprinkle on top. Once you’re finished creating the perfectly proportioned treat, you simply pay by the weight of the contents of your bowl.
Spoons also makes a significant effort to get involved in the community and give back. The frozen yogurt store is happy to make an appearance at any catered event, and what a way to make a business meeting more fun or a wedding more unique. Nearly every week the store has a day reserved to give a portion of the profits to a specified charity or organization. After the devastating destruction that rocked Haiti, Spoons gave 100% of the profits earned in one night to a Haiti relief fun; despite the cool weather that night, the line stretched far out the door for hours.
All that to say, Spoons has been a huge hit in College Station ever since the store opened it’s doors, and now that the weather is warming up, continued success is most likely in the future. However, a little friendly competition has finally entered the scene in the form of
Red Mango, located in the Wolf Pen Plaza. While Red Mango also offers a variety of choice, their biggest claim to fame is how healthy their frozen yogurt is: plenty of probiotics and no unhealthy ingredients like high-fructose corn syrup or other unnatural additives. The store also serves smoothies and parfaits, which both make for an excellent light lunch on a warm day.
