College Station MSC OPAS Performance Options
March 23rd, 2010 Categories: Community Events
Bryan/College Station is well known for its genteel southern hospitality, but what makes the area remarkable is that it also has an outlet for those looking for a refined, cultural experience. For anyone looking to dress up, get out of the house, and have an elegant evening, the MSC OPAS (Opera and Performing Arts Society) has everything you’re looking for.
Centered in Rudder theatre, on A&M’s campus, the MSC OPAS is an internationally renowned organization that has had performances like Yo Yo Ma, Les Miserables, Rent, and the world premiere of the Bolshoi-Grigorovich Ballet (which received coverage from The New York Times).
Because of A&M University, Bryan/College Station residents have access to a very prominent theatre that features all sorts of concerts and plays. The MSC OPAS relies on donations and ticket sales for its funding, so the people are friendly and everything is reasonably priced to try to encourage as many people as possible to attend the performances.
Even if you’re not one for “high culture,” the OPAS has performances like Jeff Corwin from the Animal Planet and the Spaghetti Western Orchestra, which is like the Harlem Globetrotters of orchestra. The MSC OPAS genuinely tries to have something that everyone can enjoy.
What’s great about the MSC OPAS is, not only to they try to bring great performances to Bryan/College Station residents, they are also closely tied to the community. They’re hardly a money making organization, so they are actively having community activities to try to get everyone interested and involved. For example, on the 28th of March, in Rudder theatre, they are having an ice cream social and a musical called Max and Ruby.
Max and Ruby a fun-loving story about two children putting on a musical for their grandmother. It’d be fun for the whole family, and Blue Bell is catering to the function– making it well worth everyone’s time.
If you’re looking to find something fun and unconventional to do with the family, or you’re just tired of the same old, same old, you’d never be amiss visiting the MSC OPAS and seeing one of the performances they’ve brought. All things considered, Bryan/College Station offers everything you’d hope to find in both a big city and a small town alike. Bryan/College Station is still proud to say its hospitality is as friendly and southern as ever, but it has also made a number of improvements for the benefit of the community.
