College Station Not the Only Area with Reduced Home Prices

As cited in yesterday’s article, almost 60 homes in College Station and Bryan have had their asking prices slashed in the recent months since the Homebuyer Tax Credit expired. Though we are certainly seeing the effects in our own community, this is a national trend that continues to grow with the passing summer months.

Home Ownership Rates Lowest Since 2000, Hitting the College Station Bryan Area

Fewer Americans own homes in the first quarter of 2010 than in any quarter since the beginning of 2000, according to data from the Census Bureau. The seasonally adjusted homeownership rate fell from 67.3 percent to 67.2 percent. It is the lowest rate in almost a decade, and the effects are moving from the national to the local level. Though it took some time to reach our community, we are beginning to see more foreclosures and more vacant homes in College Station and Bryan.

College Station’s Historic District

One of the most beautiful spots for real estate in the College Station area is nestled away in a quiet corner of the Southside of the city. The Historic District falls within the square of Anderson, Welsh, George Bush, and Holleman. And though there are many historic sites all throughout that area, it mainly refers to the homes on Lee, Pershing, Park Place, and Dexter.
