If you are considering relocation to College Station or Texas A&M University, consider this. There are many exciting attractions and events to take in while living in College Station. Among these are the locally and nationally beloved Aggie Athletic events. We are fortunate to have the Texas A&M athletic events occur practically year round, so there is always an exciting spectator sport to get involved in.

Starting off the school year is A&M football. No other place in the country is quite like Kyle Field on a game day. For starters, the Aggie band marches from the Southside of campus all the way to Kyle Field to kick off the festivities. Hundreds of fans gather each home game day to follow the march. Additionally, tailgating draws massive crowds that set up everywhere from the Bonfire area to Reed arena. These die hard Aggie fans start the festivities early in anticipation of the excitement that takes place on Kyle Field. Once one enters Kyle Field for the game, they are in a different world entirely. Student fans will stand the entire game in support of the team, all the while joining in the cheers that the yell leaders on the field lead. It is a huge celebration filled with team spirit, traditions, and camaraderie that one must experience to fully appreciate.

Aggie basketball and baseball are no less exciting – filled with their own traditions, unique cheers and fan games. The Texas A&M male and female swimming and diving teams constantly deliver, providing their growing fan base with numerous wins each year at the NCAA championships.

Another event sports fans cannot miss is Aggie track. Our male and female teams were the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Champions. Their hard work earned 38 All-America accolades, and their hard work is sure to continue to impress and entertain.

Getting tickets to these events is as simple as heading to the Zone at Kyle Field, or going online: http://www.12thmanfoundation.com/tickets/ticketbox.asp Group tickets may be purchased, season or single tickets are available, and there are even discount football season seats in the beloved “Flyover Zone.” (These are located above row 20 in the 500 level in The Zone; not only do you get a fantastic view of the field and 12th Man TV, but also an unparalleled view of the flyovers before the games.)

So if you are considering relocation to College Station, this is just one of the many attractions to take in in our beautiful community. Continue to check back daily for more updates to my Physician’s Relocation services. For more information on our community, schools, events, and spectacular real estate, please contact me for expert advice!

That is unless you’re an Aggie. While some are dreading the idea of a daylong cleaning session, Aggie Organizations across campus are gearing up for the “biggest” event of the year: The Big Event. The Big Event is the largest, one day, student run service project in the nation. All students, whether with an organization or a group of buddies, gather together to serve residents from the Bryan/ College Station community as a thank you.

For many Aggies the Bryan/College Station area has become a second home and are more than willing to offer a hand (multiple hands) to helping out the locals. Projects usually just consist of doing chores around the house such as raking, mowing, picking up trash, but can get as intense as pruning trees. This is also a great day because Aggies aren’t the only ones working. Residents pitch in as well, working side by side with students. Stories are told, pictures are shared, and memories are made. The Big Event gives students the chance to learn more about this great community, and the people who have lived here all their lives. Many of those being helped are former students, or have relatives going to school here. Residents benefit, not just from getting help, but for some having someone to talk to for a little bit. It’s a great day for both the students and residents.

If you’re looking for a little help this spring cleaning contact Mallory Myers at 979-845-9618 or email her at bigevent@stuact.tamu.edu. The Big Event will take place Saturday, March 27th from 8 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon with projects going on all over the area.

Beginning in 1909 the students at Texas A&M University started working together to build a massive bonfire (called “The Stack”) before the football game against TU. This tradition continued each year until 1999.

Early in the morning on November 18, 1999, the “stack” collapsed killing twelve students and injuring at least 27 others. Bonfire was cancelled that year and has not been an on school event nor a school sanctioned event since.

This tragedy is remembered through a beautiful memorial on the Texas A&M University campus.

Ross was known to tutor multiple cadets when they needed it, and when they would offer to pay him all he would accept was a penny.
Marroon bluebonnets aren’t really so old that most people would consider them a Tradition but in Aggieland if we do it more than once it must be a Tradition so…. another Tradition is born and now have even prettier flowers!

Thanks to Texas naturalist and con artistist named Carroll Abbott who came up with the dream (or maybe strange idea) of using bluebonnets in the shape of a Texas flag to celebrate the 1986 Texas Sesquicentennial.

Thanks to Greg Grant (of course an Aggie himself who likes the color maroon) who decided a red bluebonnet was not quite what he was looking for!

I know red, white and blue may be the colors of the Texas State Flag but as all Aggies know it should have been Maroon and White instead!
